Subtle Mind Exercise Versus Loving Kindness Exercise

Hi everyone!

Using the Subtle Mind exercise was very relaxing for me as was the Loving Kindness Exercise, only the main difference was that the Subtle Mind exercise was more focused on breathing and stillness of my mind. The Loving Kindness exercise is wonderful in that the focus is on gratitude and love for others which is so powerful because the more I  project this love outward, the more kindness and love I feel in my own heart.

The Subtle Mind is also great because it forces your mind to slow down the unnecessary activity and be more at peace. I actually fell asleep doing this one a few nights ago; therefore I was very much at peace! I think I will try this practice in the morning next time to avoid sleepiness.

I believe having spiritual wellness is very crucial to physical health, being the more inner peace and happiness we experience, the more we are relaxed and stress-free we are; we all know the harmful effects of stress, so anything to diminish stress is very important physically and mentally.
 Have a great evening!!

  1. The last comment that you make is an excellent point to make: "anything to diminsih stress is very important physically and mentally." There are so many benefits to reducing the stress in our lives and these exercises can play an important role. I hope that you will find the more you do them the more benefits you will gain.

  2. I am not sure if doing it in the morning will help with the sleepiness. When you get that relaxed, you are just that relaxed. Might help you stay focused and relaxed through the day though and maybe not have the stress you would normally have..like when someone cuts you off in traffic, or someone is rude in the store...you would be more of the mind to just smile and brush it off versus getting mad and reacting. Congratulations on this working for you!

  3. Don't you just love it when you can relax so much that you just fall asleep! I heard once that a deep relaxation lasting 10mins can be as beneficial as 3-4hrs of sleep! I'm curious what were your dreams of if you wish to share or if you can remember them from that evening? I find that when I'm at ease with myself and my body my mind too will let me have peaceful nights in the dream world. I usually have bad dreams but when I can let the good intentions in me override my darkness and my stresses then my dreams will reflect positive. I hope your journey in this will continue to blossom and flourish.

  4. Being stress-free is key! While doing the exercises and immediately after the exercises I am stress-free, so they are working. I now just have to figure out a way to get that stress-free feeling to last longer. Kaplan's financial aid department is giving me a lot of unnecessary stress right now and these exercises are helping but the problem is still there when I finish the exercise. I agree that anything that we can do to lessen or eliminate stress is great so I am going to have to work harder to lessen my stress for longer periods of time. I would love to be so relaxed that I fall asleep!

  5. Hi There,
I am glad that you had a lot of benefit from the exercise.
I have not been able to do that yet. It is nice to try the many different ones we are doing in this class. I enjoy listening to the exercise. I find it calming even if I can not fall asleep.
    Take care,
    Karin

  6. I almost fell asleep myself practicing the subtle mind exercise. I thought to find that one a little challenging. I was not sure if that long static sound was part of the exercise or my audio was bad. I got to only part of it. I need to start implementing these exercise as part of my daily activities. I do have the time but it's just the matter of doing it.
